About Me
Hi! I'm Kirsten. I grew up in Ohio playing with critters in my back yard. Now I still love playing with critters. I've been involved with research projects in Appalachia and Florida. I recently completed my PhD in Interdisciplinary Ecology at the University of Florida and now work as a PostDoctoral Researcher in UF's Department of Agricultural Education and Communication. My past work focused primarily on the ecology of large aquatic salamanders. Talking to the public about science has always been very important to me, and I'm now combining my interests to study public engagement with science. I am passionate about making both my field and my own work as inclusive as possible. I manage the Twitter account for the Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation's Diversity, Equity, and Diversity Task Team and also sit on the board of the Foundation for the Conservation of Salamanders. When I'm not sciencing, I spend a lot of time with my son, Dmitry, and also enjoy music, gaming, Doctor Who, hiking, geocaching, and cosplay.
